A heartwarming piece of Bennfield House history has resurfaced: a photograph of Matron Penny proudly holding her young son James on the staircase of the home she founded. For most children, a care home is a place they might visit occasionally. For James, it was home.
Growing up within the walls of Bennfield House, he spent his weekends, school holidays and every Christmas surrounded not just by residents but by family. He shared dinners at the tables, played games in the lounges and learned compassion from the people his mum dedicated her life to caring for.
Today, that little boy in the photo is all grown up and now one of the new Directors of Bennfield House. James has stepped into the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), joining the leadership team to support the next chapter of growth and expansion. His journey is not just professional; it is deeply personal.
“Bennfield House did not just raise me; it shaped who I am,” James reflects. “The residents were not just people my mum cared for, they helped care for me too. Now it is my turn to give back.”
With Doncaster facing increasing demand for high-quality nursing and residential care, James is working alongside Tom, his Mum and the team to expand Bennfield House’s capacity while preserving its most precious asset: its family spirit.
From Christmas dinners with residents as a child to board meetings and business plans as a Director, James’s story is a powerful reminder that true care is not just a profession. It is a legacy.
